ChemWerth Builds Team for Launches

Woodbridge, CT (Generics Bulletin): US-based active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) supplier ChemWerth has made several senior appointments as it prepares to launch around 15 new molecules per year from its extensive pipeline. President and chief executive officer Peter Werth acknowledged the need for “a new skill set” as the company aimed to increase its industry profile.

Former MDS executive Ed Vanderbeck has joined ChemWerth as senior vice-president of sales and marketing. “Our salesforce will be the ears for our new product development team,” Vanderbeck pledged, adding that the development team would in turn “funnel all new product ideas through the salesforce” to get feedback for customers.

Joining Vanderbeck at the Connecticut-based firm – which acts as an agent for several Chinese API manufacturers – is Dr Tang Peng, who has taken up the role of director of regulatory affairs and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) compliance. Werth highlighted Peng’s “ability to cross US-China cultural lines”.

ChemWerth has also recruited Dr Yaping Shen to acts as general manager for its operations in China. He was previously at Canada’s Libang Pharmaceuticals.

“We’ve set aggressive targets for launches, inspections and sales over the next three years,” Werth said. “With our new programme and people in place,” he maintained, “we will be set to get the best new products to customers much faster than we have in the past, resulting in earlier approval and a bigger market share for them.
